Costs explained · verified September 2026
How much does Grubhub charge restaurants?
Grubhub prices in two parts. A marketing commission of 5% (Basic), 15% (Plus) or 20% (All-access) of each order, and a separate delivery fee that starts at 10% when Grubhub's drivers deliver, or 0% if you deliver yourself. An order processing fee sits on top. So a Plus-plan order delivered by Grubhub costs about 25% before processing, and an All-access order about 30%.
The commission and delivery-fee figures are from Grubhub's own pages, get.grubhub.com, read in September 2026. Grubhub states an order processing fee applies but does not publish its percentage; where a processing figure appears below it is labeled as third-party.
The three Grubhub plans, and the delivery fee on top
Grubhub's FAQ states the marketing commission "ranges from 5% to 20% of each order, depending on the Grubhub pricing package you choose," and its New York pricing page names the tiers: Basic at 5%, Plus at 15%, All-access at 20%. On delivery, the FAQ is direct: "If you use our delivery service there's a 10% delivery fee." Restaurants with their own drivers pay no delivery fee. Pickup is available on every plan.
| Plan | Marketing commission | Grubhub delivery fee | Combined, before processing | On a $40 delivery order |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 5% | starts at 10% | about 15% | about $6.00 |
| Plus | 15% | starts at 10% | about 25% | about $10.00 |
| All-access | 20% | starts at 10% | about 30% | about $12.00 |
| Any plan, own drivers | 5–20% | 0% | 5–20% | $2.00–$8.00 |
"Before processing" because Grubhub's pages state an order processing fee applies to cover card processing and fraud monitoring without publishing the rate. Third-party guides cite roughly 3.05% + $0.30; treat that as unverified against Grubhub's own material and check your statement.
Why Grubhub's headline number understates the total
A restaurant comparing "Grubhub Plus at 15%" with "DoorDash Plus at 25%" is not comparing like with like. Grubhub's 15% is the marketing commission alone; the 10% delivery fee is a second line, so a Grubhub-delivered Plus order is about 25%, and processing is a third line. DoorDash's 25% includes delivery and, per its pricing page, payment processing. Read both statements to the bottom before deciding one is cheaper.
Grubhub's New York pricing page notes that in 2025 the New York City Council passed a law changing the third-party delivery fee cap, so New York restaurants should read that page rather than this one for their numbers.
What you keep on a $40 order
| Channel | Rate | Cost on $40 | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grubhub All-access, Grubhub delivers | 20% + 10%, before processing | about $12.00 | about $28.00 |
| Grubhub Plus, Grubhub delivers | 15% + 10%, before processing | about $10.00 | about $30.00 |
| Grubhub Basic, Grubhub delivers | 5% + 10%, before processing | about $6.00 | about $34.00 |
| Grubhub Basic, your own drivers | 5%, before processing | $2.00 | $38.00 |
| Your own ordering site (Ginger Direct) | card processing only, as low as 2% + 5¢; $1 fee paid by the guest | about $0.85 | about $39.15 |
Grubhub rows exclude its unpublished processing fee, so the real cost is higher by that amount. The Ginger row assumes card processing as low as about 2% + 5¢ with the $1 fee paid by the guest.
Frequently asked questions
What is Grubhub's commission for restaurants?
A marketing commission of 5% (Basic), 15% (Plus) or 20% (All-access) of each order, per Grubhub's own FAQ and its New York pricing page. That commission is separate from delivery: when Grubhub's drivers deliver, a delivery fee that starts at 10% is added, and an order processing fee applies on top. Verified September 2026.
Does Grubhub charge a delivery fee to restaurants?
Yes, when Grubhub's drivers deliver. Grubhub's FAQ states: "If you use our delivery service there's a 10% delivery fee," and its pricing page says delivery fees start at 10%. Restaurants that deliver with their own drivers pay no delivery fee and only the marketing commission plus processing.
What is Grubhub's payment processing fee?
Grubhub's pages state that restaurants "pay an order processing fee to cover credit card processing and fraud monitoring" but do not publish the percentage. Third-party fee guides cite roughly 3.05% plus $0.30 per order. Because Grubhub does not confirm that figure, treat it as unverified and read your own payout statement.
Does Grubhub have monthly or setup fees for restaurants?
Grubhub's pages describe the Marketplace as having "no up-front costs or hidden fees" and mention no monthly subscription; the published charges are the marketing commission, the delivery fee when Grubhub delivers, and the order processing fee.
Is Grubhub cheaper than DoorDash for restaurants?
On the marketing line Grubhub looks cheaper: 5%, 15% or 20% against DoorDash's 15%, 25% or 30%. But Grubhub adds a 10% delivery fee when it delivers and an unpublished processing fee, while DoorDash's rate includes delivery and processing. Delivered by the platform, Grubhub Plus at about 25% before processing and DoorDash Plus at 25% all-in land close together, with Grubhub slightly higher once processing is added.
Once you know the cost
Most restaurants keep the marketplace for discovery and move repeat guests to a channel they own. Ginger Direct is that channel: your own ordering site, $0 a month, orders printing to the printers you already have, and a $1 per-order fee the guest pays.
